No, I was on your Instagram and.

00;00;08;00 - 00;00;12;13

Speaker 2

I got the check. I don't need a glass. It comes in one.

00;00;16;22 - 00;00;37;27

Speaker 1

Welcome back to Tasting New York. The sun is out. The birds are flying around and we are on the border. Now I want you to take a guess. Can you guess where we are today? I'll give you 30 seconds. Go. Really? 30 seconds is a really long time in post-production. Let's do ten.

00;00;40;08 - 00;01;01;13

Speaker 1

Yup. You guessed right. We're at Drift 82 in Patchogue. And I am so excited. I told you guys we're going to be tasting seafood, okay? We're going to be chopping it up with our friend Kyle Kelly. And we're going to meet some of the restaurant staff. We're going to. Okay. Not going to lie. I couldn't stop thinking about how hungry I was during this take.

00;01;01;27 - 00;01;19;21

Speaker 1

So let's get straight into it or.

00;01;23;17 - 00;01;29;14

Speaker 3

How are you guys? Eric, I'm one of the bartenders here at Drift 82.

00;01;31;21 - 00;01;52;10

Speaker 3

Been here about three years and total. I absolutely love it here. One of my favorite things about working here is definitely the change of seasons. You know, I love volume over the summer and how crazy it gets outside. And then come wintertime, I actually love how how more intimate it is between the bar guest and the bartender. You get to know your regulars a little bit more over the winter.

00;01;52;14 - 00;02;06;04

Speaker 3

And one of my favorite drinks that we have here is the Beach Barre Bourbon. I think it's our most popular drink. And for that reason, we actually have it on our drink menu all year long. So if you do love it, which I think you will, come on down, check it out, and I guarantee you you won't be disappointed.

00;02;06;11 - 00;02;27;22

Speaker 4

So, guys, I'm Anthony, the general manager here at Drift 82, and Patchogue, New York. We're right on the waterfront here. So we do tons of outdoor table service, anything from big weddings down to a date night or a birthday party and regular table service from day to day. We have a beautiful bar here and we have tons of great food and drinks.

00;02;28;03 - 00;02;45;12

Speaker 4

Some of the bestsellers on the menu, it's scallops with Risotto as well as we have a big shrimp regatta. Our state tidbits on the appetizer list, probably one of the best appetizers we have on the menu, as well as some of the best calamari in all of Patchogue. So when you come down to drift 82 and come down and try some of our food today.

00;02;46;20 - 00;02;55;08

Speaker 1

Finally, the moment we've all been salivating, I mean, waiting for the food aisle. So nice to.

00;02;55;08 - 00;02;56;21

Speaker 2

Have. What's different about. How are.

00;02;56;21 - 00;03;01;01

Speaker 1

You? I'm good. How are you? Excellent. Excellent. Yes. Perfect. Yes.

00;03;01;14 - 00;03;02;09

Speaker 2

Thanks for pre-ordering.

00;03;02;14 - 00;03;07;03

Speaker 1

No problem. A little birdie told me that your favorite is the 2020 salad.

00;03;07;03 - 00;03;07;17

Speaker 2

All the way.

00;03;07;18 - 00;03;14;13

Speaker 1

Yeah. All right. Awesome. So I'm going to be trying the grilled shrimp. We're by the water. Seafood. I had to do it.

00;03;14;19 - 00;03;26;17

Speaker 2

You know, I've got a little tuna, a little calamari. I always thought the tentacled stuff was congealed, but I know I was proven wrong over Christmas. I guess it's just tentacles, but yeah, it's one of my favorite salads, that's for sure.

00;03;26;17 - 00;03;29;21

Speaker 1

I love that. And then we have the stink tidbits right here, so I'm excited to try that.

00;03;29;23 - 00;03;36;27

Speaker 2

I think we got to ask Anthony about this one, because that to me looks like lamb chops. Is that steak takemitsu lamb chop I ordered because I like them both.

00;03;36;28 - 00;03;37;15

Speaker 1

It's in bits.

00;03;37;24 - 00;03;39;05

Speaker 2

How we doing? All right. What are we got?

00;03;39;22 - 00;03;41;05

Speaker 4

So these are our baby lamb chops.

00;03;41;05 - 00;03;42;28

Speaker 2

Baby lamb chops. Like, I feel.

00;03;42;28 - 00;03;48;16

Speaker 4

Like they're crusted in some herbs. Request a nice jewelry lamb chops nice and juicy.

00;03;48;16 - 00;03;55;12

Speaker 2

Beautiful, nice, rare. I like them anyway. Yeah, I like them cooked for me. That's about it. Thank you, sir.

00;03;55;17 - 00;03;56;14

Speaker 4

You got it. Enjoy it.

00;03;57;06 - 00;03;57;20

Speaker 1

Thank you.

00;03;58;22 - 00;04;03;28

Speaker 2

All right. I don't need a glass. It comes in one. Thank you.

00;04;03;28 - 00;04;05;17

Speaker 1

All right, so let's just.

00;04;05;25 - 00;04;06;17

Speaker 2

Dig on it. Let's.

00;04;06;18 - 00;04;07;03

Speaker 1

Cheers.

00;04;07;04 - 00;04;09;14

Speaker 2

Vodka.

00;04;10;13 - 00;04;14;09

Speaker 1

Tell me about yourself. What do you know about me? Yeah. Tell me a little bit about you.

00;04;14;19 - 00;04;17;03

Speaker 2

Besides hanging out at every restaurant in Patchogue making videos.

00;04;18;24 - 00;04;19;15

Speaker 1

Yes, it's.

00;04;20;08 - 00;04;49;08

Speaker 2

Got it is one of my favorite things to do because prior to real estate. And so I'm I'm a realtor, but prior to real estate, I owned a restaurant and worked in the restaurant business since I was probably about 13 years old. You know, my my next door neighbor managed a place and we all started there washing dishes when we were kids and making our way to every single station in that kitchen right up to, you know, headline cook and making our way on the floor from busboy to bar back to server and bartender.

00;04;49;08 - 00;05;16;05

Speaker 2

So experience restaurant industry on every level, you know, from washing dishes through management and ownership. And restaurant was always a passion of mine, you know, until I found real estate and that became my new passion. I said, How do I kind of mingled my two passions, right? How do I make sure I'm doing something I enjoy in regular basis and and having fun with it and getting a chance to network and meet new people like my business is all about.

00;05;16;05 - 00;05;16;24

Speaker 1

So yeah.

00;05;17;04 - 00;05;32;01

Speaker 2

I just started visiting every restaurant in town and getting to know every restaurant here and owner and the bartenders and servers. And I guess it's just kind of my way of becoming the mayor of the town, right as I will be the digital mayor through the restaurant scene.

00;05;32;03 - 00;05;46;07

Speaker 1

I love that. So speaking of digital, I was on your Instagram and your bio says your dad, hubby, realtor. What did you think about being a dad? What's your favorite thing about being a husband like? Sure are those are things you cherish most?

00;05;46;07 - 00;06;11;18

Speaker 2

Well, I'm truly a glutton for punishment. So I have a 23 year old, a seven year old and a three year old. So been there, done that, doing it all over again. At one point in my career, I was, you know, a high producing agent as well as a real estate instructor and traveling a lot and kind of gave myself this title of stay at home dad slash realtor.

00;06;12;02 - 00;06;29;03

Speaker 2

And my wife just yelled at me, You're not a stay at home dad, right? You're on the road a lot. You're out working a lot. You're not a single dad, right? Just because she's a teacher, she works for the day. I'm usually home with the kids during the day and then going out and doing my real estate work in the evenings.

00;06;29;03 - 00;06;53;06

Speaker 2

Just because my schedule was different didn't really make me a stay at home dad. And it really made me just kind of change my perspective a little bit and say, You know what? I am, I'm dad first, husband, second, realtor third, but we can make that all work together, right? So my kids come to showings with me and home inspections and my seven year old used to go to so many closing tables, he would walk up to the title closure and say, Where's my check?

00;06;53;06 - 00;06;53;29

Speaker 1

That's okay.

00;06;54;12 - 00;07;06;18

Speaker 2

Now. So again, it's just kind of how do we co-mingle, how do we intertwine our passions, our loves, you know, the things that that we're really happy with in life and just make it all work together. Yeah.

00;07;06;25 - 00;07;07;25

Speaker 4

Oh, excuse me. Sorry.

00;07;07;25 - 00;07;08;10

Speaker 2

Interrupt.

00;07;08;15 - 00;07;11;25

Speaker 4

Okay, cool. We're here for you.

00;07;11;25 - 00;07;12;16

Speaker 1

Don't close your.

00;07;12;16 - 00;07;15;09

Speaker 2

Eyes, guys. Get up. Blindfolds.

00;07;15;13 - 00;07;16;29

Speaker 1

So now he's going to close.

00;07;17;00 - 00;07;18;04

Speaker 4

That's all right. Close your eyes.

00;07;18;04 - 00;07;20;25

Speaker 1

This is the part that I didn't tell you as a surprise. Okay.

00;07;21;17 - 00;07;22;02

Speaker 4

So slide.

00;07;22;04 - 00;07;24;25

Speaker 2

So this is this would be playing games part.

00;07;25;06 - 00;07;27;09

Speaker 1

Yeah.

00;07;27;09 - 00;07;31;17

Speaker 2

So guess what? Like my hand has a clean for it for you. Which direction? Right here.

00;07;31;25 - 00;07;33;11

Speaker 4

Right now. Let me help you out there.

00;07;34;05 - 00;07;35;02

Speaker 1

Thank you, Anthony.

00;07;35;24 - 00;07;39;21

Speaker 2

Right there. You want me to try to figure out what else is? Know that?

00;07;39;26 - 00;07;41;23

Speaker 1

Yes. So basically you're going to taste it.

00;07;41;25 - 00;07;44;14

Speaker 2

Shut it on a blindfold. I know. If I could even find my mouth on this.

00;07;46;01 - 00;07;52;09

Speaker 1

And let us know what it tastes like, tell us what you think it is.

00;07;52;09 - 00;08;02;02

Speaker 2

So I'm going to go with a seared ahi tuna. What? Well, sesame crust. And I got wasabi balsamic on there.

00;08;03;01 - 00;08;09;04

Speaker 4

Very close. It's occasion. Seared tuna, very close. It's got a wasabi and a teriyaki drizzle.

00;08;09;18 - 00;08;10;06

Speaker 2

Pretty close.

00;08;10;07 - 00;08;11;23

Speaker 1

That was very, very close.

00;08;11;23 - 00;08;13;06

Speaker 4

Wow. So you got just about everything.

00;08;13;19 - 00;08;17;18

Speaker 2

Well, I'll just have to tune into my TNT salad that's.

00;08;18;22 - 00;08;19;17

Speaker 4

Got sesame from.

00;08;19;18 - 00;08;20;03

Speaker 2

Ice.

00;08;21;04 - 00;08;22;13

Speaker 1

Now. Thank you.

00;08;22;29 - 00;08;59;18

00;09;00;24 - 00;09;03;08

Speaker 1

So how's the food so far is it really good.

00;09;03;20 - 00;09;24;13

Speaker 2

Know I have never had a complaint at any of Sato's restaurants, so. No, if you know, the owner here has a few other establishments. He's got shops up on Main Street. He's got the Village Idiot Pub, which he actually has three locations there. So he just. He does things right. Yeah, it's simple, it's classic, but it's done right and all these.

00;09;24;13 - 00;09;27;03

Speaker 1

Locations that's made it. So are you going to be taking us there?

00;09;27;18 - 00;09;28;25

Speaker 2

Sure. You want to go bounce around?

00;09;28;25 - 00;09;29;15

Speaker 1

Yeah. Yeah.

00;09;30;04 - 00;09;52;08

Speaker 2

You get an Uber, Mr. Wheeler drives around. Yeah. I want to dove into these baby lamb chops all about you see, they nicknamed the baby lamb chop platter of our chops the Kyle because this is this is one of my favorite my grandfather's off the boat from Greece. My mother used to make lamb for us all the time when we were younger.

00;09;52;25 - 00;09;59;03

Speaker 2

My father in law can't stand lamb. He can't stand the smell of it. So I don't get to do it at home that often. During the holidays.

00;09;59;03 - 00;10;09;18

Speaker 1

So see, that's me. My first year. I can't eat lamb because the smell is just like what you smell. I know.

00;10;09;18 - 00;10;12;11

Speaker 2

Spot on. You don't need mint jelly when it's done right.

00;10;12;26 - 00;10;22;05

Speaker 1

Let's talk a bit about your media and marketing expertize. I'd say go to school for this. Like, is this something that you just think of as a hobby or.

00;10;22;15 - 00;10;52;24

Speaker 2

I'm a serial entrepreneur. Entrepreneur, entrepreneur, absolutely. I find things that I like that I enjoy. And I say, you know, how can I go further into it? I learn more about it. Sometimes. Take it to the next level of starting a business doing that. Yeah, I actually tried to start a media company probably right around when the pandemic hit, and I realized if I take my my focus off of real estate, which is really my bread and butter, my clients there start to suffer and it's not fair to them.

00;10;52;24 - 00;11;15;07

Speaker 2

So I'll stay in my lane. But the media companies stay in their lane. Yeah, but when it comes to producing content, I've been savage about it. Right. For your first four or five years now of posting every day, posting three times a day to all media channels out there. And it's something that I do for my clients as well.

00;11;15;07 - 00;11;36;19

Speaker 2

Right. So where is your attention on video? Right. And mostly on your phone. So how can I get my clients exposure to as many eyeballs as possible? That's by doing video. That's by getting it on every form of social media out there in all different ways. And just you want to get the eyeballs on there. And that's what it all comes down to.

00;11;36;19 - 00;11;43;22

Speaker 2

So yeah, I fuze the two and we do video for real estate to video for my other passions which is restaurants. Yeah. And the network.

00;11;43;26 - 00;11;51;22

Speaker 1

Now is do you feel like your knowledge about visibility, especially on digital platforms, has helped your business in any way?

00;11;52;01 - 00;12;12;00

Speaker 2

We all strive for the phone ringing and you answer it. They say, Kyle, come live at my house for sale. Yeah, like that's as a realtor. That's what you want, not the. I'm interviewing other realtors, not the. I don't know who to use, you know. Do you know anybody? We want our phone to ring and they say, Come list me.

00;12;12;00 - 00;12;30;20

Speaker 2

Yes. And being savage about this, being relentless about this, putting out content, the way I put it out has led to at least half a dozen dozen listings this year where my phone rang and they said, We've seen all your content, we've seen your marketing videos, we've seen that you're the expert in the town. We've seen you're the expert about the market.

00;12;31;12 - 00;12;45;17

Speaker 2

We need to work with you. Yeah, right. And we're eliminating objections that way, right? They just say, we know you. We like you. Yeah, we trust you. Now come work with us. Yeah, come with us. Yeah. That's basically what I use social media for.

00;12;45;17 - 00;13;11;16

Speaker 1

It's awesome. And I can definitely say that you've mastered that because I was on your page. You're very consistent. Your content is very valuable and it's definitely enough to make a potential client go, Hey, I trust this person to help me purchase my next home. I'm in my twenties. I'm a millennial. What advice would you give me or anyone like me who is looking to get into real estate or purchase a home?

00;13;11;23 - 00;13;36;25

Speaker 2

It's not easy. It's work. It's work every day. It's being at your client's beck and call, right? So don't think that it's just a quick and easy way to make money. Okay? However, it can be very lucrative. It can be very rewarding. It can lead you into other passions. So I am not passionate about buying and selling houses.

00;13;37;01 - 00;13;51;25

Speaker 2

I'm passionate about helping others, about helping homeowners, about helping homebuyers achieve their dreams. Yeah. So to me, it was it was an outlet. It was a way to find a way to help others. And it became lucrative and rewarding.

00;13;52;06 - 00;13;52;12

Speaker 1

To.

00;13;53;18 - 00;14;18;27

Speaker 2

Flip that anybody. Millennial right now thinking about buying a home, especially here on Long Island. Yes, there's an old saying that time in the market beats timing the market. You don't wait to buy real estate. You don't wait for the perfect storm. You don't wait for interest rates to be low and housing prices to be low. And it's a perfect buyer's market.

00;14;18;29 - 00;14;32;20

Speaker 2

If you're trying to time the market, you'll never win buying when you're able to and getting in the market as quickly as you can and then waiting for that market to produce value for you is always going to be a winner.

00;14;32;24 - 00;14;34;00

Speaker 1

Thank you so much, Kyle.

00;14;34;00 - 00;14;34;20

Speaker 2

Oh, thank you.

00;14;34;21 - 00;14;35;27

Speaker 1

This food was amazing.

00;14;35;28 - 00;14;38;12

Speaker 2

Thanks for buying. Oh, wait, I got to check.

00;14;42;06 - 00;14;43;27

Speaker 1

And we hope to have you again next time.

00;14;44;02 - 00;14;45;05

Speaker 2

Absolutely. Can't wait.

00;14;45;22 - 00;14;56;00
